Stage 1 ECU Remap
A bespoke calibration for your car’s standard hardware. More power and torque, sharper throttle response and a smoother spread of performance, developed for your exact engine rather than taken off the shelf.
- Up to 30% more power & torque
- Typically 2–3 hours
- Original software kept on file
What is a Stage 1 remap?
A Stage 1 remap is a recalibration of your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU), the software that decides how much boost, fuel and ignition advance the engine runs at every moment. Manufacturers calibrate conservatively so one map can suit every market, fuel quality and driver. A Stage 1 calibration refines those settings for your car, on UK fuel, within safe mechanical limits.
No hardware changes are needed. Stage 1 is designed for vehicles on factory components, and for most turbocharged cars it is the single most effective upgrade you can make.
Every file is developed for your make, model and engine. We are licensed WinOLS users and write our own calibrations in-house, so you are not receiving a generic file that has been sold a thousand times.
What you can expect.
More power, where you use it
Turbocharged engines typically gain 20–30% more power and torque, with the biggest difference felt in the mid-range when overtaking or joining a motorway.
Sharper throttle response
Flat spots and hesitation are calibrated out, so the car responds the moment you ask it to.
Smoother delivery
Power arrives progressively and predictably, not as a spike. The car feels more refined, not more raw.
Economy on a steady cruise
Driven gently, many cars return better fuel economy thanks to the extra torque at lower revs.
Calibrated to your priorities
Performance, economy or a balance of the two. We talk it through before we write anything.
Fully reversible
Your original software is saved before any change, so the car can be returned to factory settings at any time.
Pairing Stage 1 with a performance intake
A performance air intake lets the engine breathe more freely, and a Stage 1 calibration can then optimise fuelling, boost and ignition timing to make use of it. Together they give quicker response and a stronger pull through every gear without extensive modification, which makes them an excellent pairing for a fast road car.
Ready for more? Stage 2
If you have already upgraded your intake, exhaust or intercooler, or plan to, a Stage 2 remap is calibrated around that hardware to unlock considerably more. We will tell you honestly whether the extra investment is worthwhile for your car and how you use it.
A considered process, from first call to handover.
- 01
Consultation
We talk through the car, how you use it and what you want from it, then recommend only what is worthwhile.
- 02
Health check
Diagnostics before any change, so we know the car is healthy and fit for the work.
- 03
Bespoke calibration
Software and parts matched to your specific vehicle, never a generic off-the-shelf solution.
- 04
Verification & handover
Post-work checks, then we walk you through what was done. Your original software is kept on file.
Trusted by owners who know their cars.
Callum, very polite, knowledgeable and excellent guy, did an amazing job fitting an exhaust, coil packs, spark plugs, induction kit and a remap, and it all works and sounds brilliant. I would not hesitate to use Pro Tuning again.
I had my Audi A1 remapped by Callum recently and the difference is amazing. Better acceleration, more torque and now averaging almost 60mpg on a long run, 45–50mpg around town. Throttle and turbo response so much better.
Great experience with tuning my 4.4 TDV8 L322. The car feels much more responsive and seems to be more economical. Given the extra power I may be driving like a hooligan, so will be difficult to confirm. Callum knows his onions and I would highly recommend.
Stage 1 ECU Remap: your questions answered.
How much more power will I get?
Turbocharged engines typically gain 20–30% more power and torque from a Stage 1 calibration. Exact figures depend on your make, model and engine, and we will give you realistic expectations before we start.
Will a remap affect my engine’s reliability?
Our Stage 1 calibrations stay within the manufacturer’s mechanical safety margins and are designed for daily use. We check the health of the engine before any work, and you should continue to service it to the manufacturer’s schedule.
Can I improve my MPG?
Often, yes, particularly on a steady motorway cruise. Many customers report improved economy when driving normally.
Do I need to change any parts?
No. Stage 1 is designed for vehicles on standard hardware.
Can the remap be reversed?
Yes. We save your original ECU software before making any change and can restore the factory calibration at any time.
Will it affect my warranty?
It may, depending on your manufacturer. Please check your warranty terms before booking. We are happy to talk through the implications.
How long does it take?
Most Stage 1 remaps take 2–3 hours including pre-checks. We will confirm timings when you book.
Do you offer “pop and bang” maps?
No. Crackle and burble maps are not road legal and are antisocial. We do not offer them.
